Shelton Congregational Church
Open and Affirming Policy

Adopted Feb. 22, 2009

We believe God made the world and all that is in it.

We believe God so loves the world that God gave his only son so everyone might believe and have eternal life.

We believe the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ frees all people from sin and death and reveals that the embrace of God’s love extends to all people, especially those considered to be beyond the reach of God’s grace.

We believe the love and Spirit of God is bestowed upon all people, be they Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female, young or old.

These beliefs lead us, the members of Shelton Congregational Church, to declare ourselves to be a congregation that is Open and Affirming to our lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender sisters and brothers.

By God’s grace and the power of God’s love, we strive to be Open and Affirming to all God’s children regardless of sexual orientation, gender, economic status, race, ethnicity, nationality, ability, age, or any other human designation that separates us one from another.

In making this declaration we confess we do not fully live the vision this statement sets forth, but are confident that by God’s grace we will live into the reality of which it speaks. We invite all who wish to become a part of God’s inclusive community of faith to join us as we seek to live ever more fully into the light and power of God’s love.
