The minutes from the May 21st, 2003 meeting were reviewed and accepted.
The minutes from the two Special Meetings held May 25th, 2003 and
June 1st, 2003 were also reviewed and accepted.
Minister - Rev. Greg Schmidt - Greg reported clergy
for July and August pulpit supply is still needed. Rev. Don Studer
would be here for July 6th, Communion Sunday.
Treasurer - Bruce Nichols - In Bruce’s absence,
Bill Barker presented the report. During the month of May 2003 the
church had expenses of $8,608.59 and income of $6,044.27 for a net
deficit of $2,564.32. Net worth for the church at the end of May was
$246,585.03, up $8,362.76 from the end of April 2003. The increase
was due to an $11,000.00 increase in our portfolio value in May. Year
to date, the church’s net worth is up approximately $3,000.00.
Christian Education - Janet Wells - Greg reported
Children’s Day was very nice. 85 people were in church that
day. Teachers are needed for next year.
Deacons - Gene Ogden - Greg reported two baptisms
would be held Sunday.
Outreach - Lesley Barker - Spooner House will be
served June 20th, 2003. Planning and Zoning has approved the Spooner
House application. A variance is now needed. The Act Walk will be
September 13th, 2003. Lesley reported that Barbara Osterhoudt has
received no response from the I.V.C. concerning their lack of response
for help from our church members. It was decided to pay the first
half of the dues.
Membership - Walter Crosby - On Sunday, June 15th,
we welcomed 5 new members into our church. Each month a new member
will be hi-lighted in the newsletter. A picture and a short biography
will be published. The committee will soon be cleaning up the membership
list.
Personnel - Bill Barker - Work is progressing on
finding an interim minister. The U.C.C. has been sending us resumes.
Three candidates are being looked at. More information will be available
for the next council meeting. Bill reported 36 church surveys as returned.
Fundraising - Betty Ogden-Quilt tickets have been
passed out and the drawing will be held on June 29th. It rained the
day of the tag sale. Still did well and everyone had a good time.
Gene Ogden took everything that was left home. He plans on having
a tag sale and then donate the money to the church. Tag sale will
be held on July 12th.
Stewardship - Greg reported the possibility of Cheryl
Patrick as the new Stewardship chairperson.
Trustees - Glenn Wells - Bill Barker reported trustees
met Tuesday morning. They voted to move $9,000 from the Verizon Portfolio
to the checking account. The lead abatement work left on the parish
house is exterior. Bill, Greg, Ron Karkut and Al Wilcox are almost
done with the stained glass windows in the church
Unfinished Business:
1. It was decided to send our dues to the I.V.C. We would pay _
now and _ later.
New Business:
1. A motion was made and seconded to allocate an additional $250.00
for the June 29th farewell reception.
The next council meeting will be held Wednesday, July 23rd. 2003
at 7:30 PM in the Shelton Congregational Church Library. The Rev.
Dr. Greg Schmidt led the council in saying “The Lord’s
Prayer.” The meeting was then adjourned at 8:45 PM.
Respectfully Submitted
